Missing mom today and thinking about how much she wanted to be here for her birthday. She would have been 79 years old today.

Daughter of a Heavenly King
October 9, 2011
It's been hard to concentrate. My mind has been on mom.... oh, how I miss her! I have had sleepless nights and outbursts of crying. Sometimes my heart hurts so bad I wonder how I can go on. It's like a piece of my heart went with mom. As bad as it hurts, I am thankful for the plan of salvation. I know I will see my mother again. Her body whole, no more crippled feet, no more pain. I can't wait to see her, hug her, and tell her how much I've loved and missed her.
My siblings and I have been busy with funeral arrangements and house matters over the last few days. Just going through the motions at times, it seems.
Morgann turned 12 years old today. She starts Young Women's. I bought her a sign to hang in her room "Princess, daughter of a Heavenly King", along with a journal. HAPPY BIRTHDAY SWEET HEART!

Cowboy Ben
October 4, 2011
Ben turned 1 year old today! Audrey gave him a Farm Birthday Party. Cowboy Ben stole the stage! Audrey made him a cake with New Holland tractors on it. It was so cute and it pleased his daddy! The kids decorated the paper table cloth with farm scenes. Ben did some posing in front of the farm scene of hay bales, barn doors, and cowboy stuff. Grandma and grandpa's present to Ben was a farm to play with. By the time it was time for cake, Ben was ready to go to bed. The cake did not interest him too much..... but the jammies sure brought a big smile to his face! I sure love this little guy. HAPPY BIRTHDAY COWBOY BEN!

Bees.... at my Picnic!
September 21, 2011
It is a tradition that every year for my birthday, we girls spend it in the mountains. It is usually my only chance to be surrounded by colorful fall leaves. I love this time of year! It is always so beautiful. This year Kelsey and Audrey took me up the canyon, to Doc's Flat, above Mantua. We went on a mile hike to our picnic site. Alia led the way for grandma! I spotted the first signs of Fall... two colorful leaves on the path.
Kelsey made harvest soup and homemade rolls. Audrey made a pumpkin sheet cake (another tradition). All went well, accept... the frosting spilled all over in the bag, so the girls had to squeeze it out of the bag onto the cake. And then the bees came, and lots of them. We were swatting, running, screaming! We had had it with them. They were getting into our food, into our drinks, swarming us. Ben had some frosting on his chin, and a bee landed on it, thinking he was going to eat a feast. I screamed "Ben!" and swung at the bee sitting on his chin. That bee wasn't going to sting my Ben! Ben started crying as soon as I swatted at him, and he didn't stop. I think he thought grandma was mad at him! It was so sad. We ate what we could, packed up from our suppose-to-be serene picnic in the mountains, and scrambled for the car. We couldn't get out of there fast enough!

Birthday Gift
September 19, 2011
On September 19, 1978, I received the best birthday gift ever.... a beautiful baby girl! We brought Amie home from the hospital on my birthday, the 21st. Amie and I usually spend a day together in between our birthdays. This year we met for lunch at Subway and exchanged gifts. Shaniel came, too. Laughter filled much of our conversations. I love that every year I am reminded of why MY BIRTHDAY is so special... HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMIE!

The Three Musketeers!
September 18, 2011
The Three Musketeers! That's what we are. Every year, Mom takes Kelley and I out to lunch to celebrate our birthdays together, since our birthday's are only a week apart. This year was no exception, even with mom in the nursing home. Mom is always up to having a good party. In fact, one day Leslie asked her what she was going to miss most when she is gone, and she said "the parties and family get togethers".
We started our day going to church with mom.... a favorite thing for me to do with her. For lunch mom wanted Chinese. It was closed so we choose the next best thing. A Frosty from Wendy's. We added a meal from KFC to make our meal complete.
After lunch, Rachel joined us and we took mom for a walk across the street to CEU. Kelley was pushing mom across the street and hit a (crater) very large crack in the road. We just about dumped her out! That's all we needed... a call to 911 and have our mother picked up from the middle of the road. We surely would have killed her. We quickly turned her wheelchair around and pulled her backwards, making it both easier and safer.
We found a nice shady patio and sat, visited, and enjoyed the beauty of the impending Fall. The fresh air was so pleasant. Mom loves to get out of the care center and into the fresh air as much as possible. She looked like an angel today.... so beautiful and at peace. Kelley is always a hoot and entertained us. We celebrated another wonderful birthday together... us Three Musketeers!

Grandma Marbles
August 20, 2011
Carson's birthday is on August 23rd, but his party was today. Mom wanted to give Carson something. We thought about something that could be found around the house. I suggested some marbles because Carson's favorite thing at grandma's house was the marbles and roller rack. In fact, Carson called her Grandma Marbles. Mom thought that was a great idea.... and so did Carson!
Farmers Market.....
Steve and Misty sold their garden fresh produce at the market today in Price. Hailie is modeling a HUGE turnip! I took her and Jarrett shopping for school clothes during the market. Jarrett for his birthday coming up on September 1st, and Hailie for completing her summer school packet. We also got her hair cut. She wanted it cut just like grandma's.

Princess all day long
August 4, 2011
Ali Bear turned 3 years old today! She is a darling, independent, knows-what-she-wants little girl. She often tells you "I am happy!" It's hard to catch her standing still long enough to get a good picture, so you can imagine my delight when I got this one.....
We started the morning at the house in Brigham for irrigation day. Alia loves to help mommy in the garden! After the irrigation, we got ready to go to Logan for the day. Alia loves her braids and shows them off.... "I'm like Tangled", she said. Alia carefully unwrapped the present I gave her; a princess nightgown, slippers and tiarra. Oh! how she loved them. She said "I want to wear my princess dress and slippers", and so she did! All day long. After she got them on, she kept twirling around, and would occasionally stop and look down at her dress, expressing pure joy and delight in her new princess attire. It was fun to watch. We finished up our day celebrating at the Beehive Grill in Logan. What used to be the DI, located a block from our house, was transformed into the Grill. It was strange to walk inside and see it all so different. Grandma, Mommy, and Ben had a most delightful day with a Beautiful little Princess!

Sparklers are for birthdays... just ask grandpa!
Sunday, July 3, 2011
It was a day of celebration! We had a welcome home BBQ for Dave, and a birthday party for Hailie. She turned 8 years old today. For a candle, we put a sparkler (it all started with grandpa in Alaska!) in the top cupcake. It was a festive 4th of July weekend. Lots of kids, grandkids, and fun! All was here to help in the celebrations except Korrine's family.

Birthday Girl!
Thursday, June 30, 2011
My baby wanted to celebrate her birthday in the cool, green woods. So we loaded up the kiddos, got a subway sandwich, a frizbee, and headed up Sardine Canyon. We traveled a whole 4 miles and left the hot city behind. Mantua Campground was the perfect spot to have a picnic and fish and play in the stream.
We finished off the day at the Bountiful Farmers Market and had cake and ice cream at the Mecham's in Kaysville. It was a great day! Happy 25th Birthday Audrey!

Anniversary Inn
For Dave's birthday today, we spent last night in Logan at the Anniversary Inn. The room was a surprise for Dave. We stayed in Aphrodites Court. Lots of marble, mirrors, angel and Greek god statues, large jetted tub, double bed (we had to sleep close again!) surrounded by drapes of white sheer fabric. They had cheesecake and sparkling apple cider for us in the evening and provided a ham and cheese croissant, yogurt with fruit, and juices for breakfast. It was nice to leave the responsibilities of the farm and just relax. Although I have to admit, nothing beats our HOME! We are so spoiled. Our master suite put Aphrodites Court to shame!
The last time we stayed in the Anniversary Inn was 16 1/2 years ago..... for our honeymoon. Our room was "lost in space." I almost... almost, got it again. I hope we don't go another 16 years before we get there again. It was way too much fun. And it will be fun to experience another themed room.
We finally used our gift card and ate at Texas Roadhouse. Dave had never been there. It was quite entertaining and the food was delicious!

A Celebration
Sunday, April 3, 2011
After Conference, we celebrated Dave's birthday. The kids provided the meal, and we provided the house. We had dutch oven chicken and potatoes, corn doggers, a variety of salads, and cheesecake.
Entertainment came in the form of Dave's IPad. He has a copycat software program where you say something to the cat and the cat says the same thing back but in a very high pitched sound. There was plenty of laughter going on with the copy cat. Later in the evening, Chad and Dave put up the theater room pictures while the kids entertained us with music and dancing on the stage. We also watched a movie and ate popcorn in the family room. It was very fun evening.

Celebrating....on a road trip!
Kelsey! She got it from me. She got it from Grandpa. Our kind of fun.... road trip! She took the day off work and we went for a drive to celebrate her birthday. The day was much like the day she was born. Bleak, gray, windy, and stormy; not what you would expect the first day of Spring to be. But Kelsey is anything but that... she's energetic, optimistic, and full of sunshine!
She's looking for acreage (only window shopping, mind you) so they can add a horse to their growing farm. We headed to Logan and stopped at Seagull Book first of all. Kelsey picked out a few books for her birthday and then we had lunch at Chili's. On the way to Preston Idaho we found the most delightful house, North of Richmond, on 12 acres. A phone call let us know it was under contract. When we got to Preston, we filled up at a service station and purchased a couple of maps for directions on the back roads of Cache Valley. We stopped at Arctic Circle and got a milk shake for the road. The sites were pleasant enough but it was nice to come back home, over the hill.... Box Elder! Kelsey found her dream property, only a few miles from her house, sitting up against the Wasatch range. She couldn't resist... she climbed the barbed wire fence, got stuck, just to check out the foundation in the middle of the property. Doesn't that sound like something Grandpa would do! The property sits on 6 acres. The owners are not in any hurry to sell... so, just maybe, in a few years!!!
Road trips are definetly our kind of fun!
