Cash Wallet

November 14, 2011

I picked up pre-op papers for my Colonoscopy, which is scheduled for Thursday.  I'm not looking forward to it.
Something I am looking forward to.... using my new Cash Wallet Audrey made me.  I love the colors and pattern! Thanks Audrey!

Cataract Surgery

November 1, 2011

Being awake, but not moving, was a weird sensation.  What was to take only a half hour to forty five minutes took about an hour to remove my cataract.  A blast of air was shot into my eye at the tail end of the surgery. I heard the doctor say "that's never happened before."  He asked for an instrument to remove the air bubble before putting the fluid into my eye.  I hope I don't have any more eye problems for a long, long time!

Bees.... at my Picnic!

September 21, 2011

It is a tradition that every year for my birthday, we girls spend it in the mountains. It is usually my only chance to be surrounded by colorful fall leaves. I love this time of year! It is always so beautiful. This year Kelsey and Audrey took me up the canyon, to Doc's Flat, above Mantua. We went on a mile hike to our picnic site. Alia led the way for grandma! I spotted the first signs of Fall... two colorful leaves on the path.

Kelsey made harvest soup and homemade rolls. Audrey made a pumpkin sheet cake (another tradition). All went well, accept... the frosting spilled all over in the bag, so the girls had to squeeze it out of the bag onto the cake. And then the bees came, and lots of them. We were swatting, running, screaming! We had had it with them. They were getting into our food, into our drinks, swarming us. Ben had some frosting on his chin, and a bee landed on it, thinking he was going to eat a feast. I screamed "Ben!" and swung at the bee sitting on his chin. That bee wasn't going to sting my Ben! Ben started crying as soon as I swatted at him, and he didn't stop. I think he thought grandma was mad at him! It was so sad. We ate what we could, packed up from our suppose-to-be serene picnic in the mountains, and scrambled for the car. We couldn't get out of there fast enough!

Another year down!

The Three Musketeers!

September 18, 2011

The Three Musketeers!  That's what we are.  Every year, Mom takes Kelley and I out to lunch to celebrate our birthdays together, since our birthday's are only a week apart.  This year was no exception, even with mom in the nursing home. Mom is always up to having a good party.  In fact, one day Leslie asked her what she was going to miss most when she is gone, and she said "the parties and family get togethers".

We started our day going to church with mom.... a favorite thing for me to do with her.  For lunch mom wanted Chinese.  It was closed so we choose the next best thing.  A Frosty from Wendy's.  We added a meal from KFC to make our meal complete.

After lunch, Rachel joined us and we took mom for a walk across the street to CEU.  Kelley was pushing mom across the street and hit a (crater) very large crack in the road.  We just about dumped her out!  That's all we needed... a call to 911 and have our mother picked up from the middle of the road.  We surely would have killed her.  We quickly turned her wheelchair around and pulled her backwards, making it both easier and safer.

We found a nice shady patio and sat, visited, and enjoyed the beauty of the impending Fall.  The fresh air was so pleasant.  Mom loves to get out of the care center and into the fresh air as much as possible.  She looked like an angel today.... so beautiful and at peace.  Kelley is always a hoot and entertained us.  We celebrated another wonderful birthday together... us Three Musketeers!
