Car Accident

My poor baby!  Amie was on her way over to Parkdale to visit grandma when she had just dropped her kids off at their dad's work.  She stopped at a stop sign by Walmart and was getting ready to turn onto the highway, when a truck from behind slammed into her, smashing the trunk of the car up into the back seat.  Amie's head hit the steering wheel hard, gashing an open wound from the top of her head to just above her eye.  It tore open the skin down to her skull.  You could see her eyeball through the open wound. Although I didn't see it... my stomach is too weak for things like that.  Amie was taken by ambulance to the hospital. A plastic surgeon was called in to stitch her up.  She ended up with 4 layers of stitching.  She had 29 stitches in her top layer alone.  I hope she has a speedy recovery and quits getting into accidents!

Playing basketball at 3:00 in the morning can be very hazardous!  Steve and a bunch of other yahoo's were playing basketball, at his dad's house, in the wee hours of the morning.  Steve came down on his foot, rather hard, and twisted it.  He felt the brake.  He ended up going to the E.R. the next morning.  The x-ray confirmed that, but because his ankle and foot were so swollen, the Dr. wrapped it and sent him home until he could see a surgeon on Tuesday.  Instructions were to lay down with foot elevated.   I wonder when this chain of bad luck is going to end!

He was feeding Ruby (his horse) and tried to skat away another horse that wanted to butt in.  Chad wasn't going to have that, and the horse wasn't going to have that either.  A kick in the shin from the disgruntled horse sent him away sore and limping.

And that's not the end of it!  Monday morning at 3:00 a.m., bad luck happens again......


On a brighter note, Dave and I went to a unique shop, The Cannery, in North Ogden, and bought a hot tub for the basement patio.  It's going to be nice!

Makaela spent 24 hours in the hospital before coming home.  She was greeted with get well cards and visits today.  Her resting spot is temporarily on the living room couch.  She had two rods put in her femur to hold it in place, and the colorful red cast goes from her hip to her toes.  Wishing you a big Get Better Soon, Makaela.... from grandma!

A 20 foot climb up the large cottonwood tree ended up with bad results.  Makaela had a note to deliver to the Fairy.  The note was undiscovered on the small fairy house Makaela placed at the base of the tree, so she was sure if she placed it up high in the tree in an empty bird nest, that she would surely find it!  A small branch that Makaela held on to could not hold her weight and she came crashing down.... hitting and breaking another branch and landing on top of a barbed wire fence before hitting the ground.  She knew she was in trouble when she could not move her leg.  She yelled for help, and thankfully a neighbor heard her cries and came rushing over.  Both Kelsey and Chad were at work, but were soon contacted.  Chad got to the house just after the ambulance got there.  Kelsey was already at the hospital, where she had just dropped off a patients blood work.  

After taking x-rays, the picture showed a badly broken right femur.  An emergency surgery was scheduled to repair the brake.  She was in surgery for 2 1/2 hours.  Twenty nine stitches were put in her right arm, as well, to sew up the cut from the barbed wire fence.   Ouch!

What started out as a fun day in the sun, ended up as a 2nd degree burn on the bum cheeks for Alia.  She was in her swimming suit at the time.  She climbed the slide, started her descent, and burned her little bum cheeks all the way down.  Her delicate skin blistered immediately and the first layer of skin peeled off, exposing a bright red burn about 3 inches wide and 6 inches long on each side.  Audrey had to change bandages three times a day, apply antibiotic, and make frequent doctor visits to make sure no infection occurred.   Poor baby girl! From Alia, the bad luck went to....

The burn is on both sides of her little cheeks.  It's just about healed in the picture above
