I've been counting carbs and thought today's meal was going to be a challenge because it was Superbowl Sunday. And who doesn't like to snack out on a day like this!
I found two recipes on pinterest that stayed within my carb limit of 45 carbs. White chicken enchilada's and individual 7-layer dip. It was chocked full of fiber. The meal was both filling and delicious. I was even able to make some homemade Frosty's for desert. This, by far, is one of my all time favorite meals.
It was Riley's birthday today, too. I heard he celebrated in a big way. Just the way he wanted it. The Denver Bronco's won! Happy Birthday Riley!
February 9 - Spilled Milk
What happens when you turn your back for a split second? Baby James somehow gets the lid off his cup and spills the milk! Catching him in the act of sitting in a puddle of the white liquid and rubbing his hands in as if he were painting a picture... was priceless! Aren't babies suppose to do things like this! That's what brings smiles to your face.
Migration
I love this time of year! The Canadian geese are migrating north. I took Brayden home from school today and saw a large flock of geese in the field just east of their house. The Bear River Bird Refuge is practically in their back yard and so they get a show of migration from a variety of birds every year. Lucky!
February 10 - Angelversary
This year because of Kelsey's school and work schedule and my temple schedule, we decided to go to breakfast this morning to celebrate Shaniel's 3rd Angelversary. It's hard to believe that 3 years have passed away.
It was nice to have someone fix breakfast for a change. We went to IHop and had strawberry topped waffles, pancakes, eggs, bacon, and orange juice. It was a nice morning to be together. We decided from the time of Shaniel's passing that we were not going to sit around and cry on this day. We chose to celebrate her life, and I'm glad we did! Shaniel would want that, too.
James
James is such a handsome little guy. He is the only one of Audrey's kids that have those beautiful piercing blue eyes like grandpa Bates. He is always happy... always! I love this little one.
He was very excited and happy to get tastes of orange juice this morning. He would clap his hands and squeal with delight every time the straw was filled.
February 12 - Batman
The Mecham's added a new member to their family today. Batman! A black floppy-eared baby bunny. I love the name they picked out for him.
February 13 - Valentine Surprise
I love holidays, just like my mother. This year I scoured the house for things I could do for the little kids this year. I found a box and crafted a cover to hold valentine treats. Cookie dough, cookie cutters, frosting, and sprinkles. Then, I included some cards left over from a previous year and pre-made a few heart cookies for the kids to decorate right off.
The best part of Valentine's Day is setting the Valentine at the door, knocking, and running away so it's a surprise when the kids come to the door. Some little ones liked their Valentine Day surprise today!
February 14 - Deer in Orchard
It's a regular occurance for us to see a herd of deer in the orchard. They seem to be a nuisance when it comes to eating the bark off of new trees and tulip bulbs. But... in years from now I think we will look back and enjoy the memory of having deer in our orchard and yard. They have a safe place to come to!
February 17 - Brayden
This character turned 14 years old today. So that makes him all grown up, or so it seems. That means he was old enough to get a cell phone. He passed out cards, that Kelsey made, with his name and number on it for family and friends. He really liked that.
Brayden's school sponsored a dance for the oldest class tonight, which he is in. That provided the perfect scenario for Brayden to invite some friends up for a spaghetti dinner before going to the dance. He's quite the ladies man!
Brayden looks handsome in his suit and red bowtie, don't you think!
Found Treasure
I had my car washed and cleaned today at Super Sonic Car Wash in Riverdale. When I got in after it was done, I noticed an earring of Shaniel's was sitting in the cup holder. What a wonderful treasure to have them find! It was one of her favorite's. It's amazing that it remained hidden in the car for all this time. It was a pleasant surprise to receive this 3 years after her passing. I tucked the earring away in mom's trinket box with all my other treasures.
February 18 - Hail
A thunderous noise had me running to the window to see what was going on Hail! I love the sound of rain and hail storms.
New Doo
I was over due for a hair cut and highlight. Jeannie, my hairdresser, works at Possibilities in Tremonton. I go in about every three months. I always like it when someone else does my hair and not me! It's so relaxing and makes me feel new again.
February 20 - Orchestra
Makeala played at Ogden High School today. I could not believe the beauty of the inside of the building. You would have never guessed it from the outside, but great care was taken when the school was remodeled several years ago. It was done in Roman-style to reflect that time period of architecture. It reminded me of the Egyptian Theater in downtown Ogden where Kelsey graduated with her nursing degree. It was beautiful!
And, by the way, the concert was very nice and Makaela was as beautiful as ever.
February 22 - Provo City Center Temple Open House
Audrey's family and Dave and I went to the
Provo City Center Temple Open House today. The temple's beauty was more than I
ever imagined. It was amazing that two levels of the temple and the parking
garage were built underground. I could not believe all the work that was
accomplished in 18 month's time. Truly... it was done by the hand of the
Lord. The woodwork, stained glass, and furnishings were replicated to represent
the late 1800's, when the tabernacle was built. The dark wood spiral
staircases, doors, balconies, and narrow hall ways were stunning. The sealing
rooms surrounding the celestial room were beautiful and tastefully... no,
superbly... decorated. Large expansive stained glass windows faced to the
inside, overlooking the 4 level staircase and balcony. The sun shone in the
west window, giving an illusion of celestial glory. I don't know how else to
describe it. I can't wait to go to this temple after it is dedicated. It is
truly a magnificent treasure. A house of the Lord.
Makaela got a special birthday this year. She turned 16 years old. And because she is a leap year baby, she really turned 4 years old!
She invited a group of friends to our house for a fun night of Mystery and Ballroom dancing. Everyone wore masks, were given notepads and pencils, and clues to solve the murder mystery. Several of us adults were the characters in the game and the kids were free to follow us and ask questions in order to solve the crime.
Friends, dinner, decorations, picture booth, balloons, and a dessert table pulled the evening's event all together to make for a perfect "sweet 16" birthday. Happy Birthday Makaela!
February 29 - Slug Bug
Kelsey and Chad took Makaela to the DMV to get her driver's license today. After all, today was her real birthday, the day she turned 16, the day she could officially drive! And did she ever get a surprise!
After filling out the proper paper work, the DMV rep handed Makaela a set of car keys and told her she was good to go! With car keys in hand she went out, pushing the button to find a car in the midst of so many others in the parking lot. It led her to.... her car! A Slug Bug! Blue... her favorite color! With a license plate reading "Suzie Q", the name her mother has called her all her life! A gerber daisy sits in the vase by her steering wheel. The top rolls down. And she looks so adorable in her new little car!
Audrey and I hid in the parking lot to watch it all unfold. It was so fun to watch. Makaela is such a good girl. She works hard to help around the house. She is so responsible. She does anything she is asked to do, and she does it cheerfully. She gets good grades. She has a job. She's earned this car, I'd say!
