Day 102 - Vandalism

apr 12

I never thought this would happen, or rather, I had hoped it would never happen! We have some vandals reeking all kinds of havoc on our new home construction. Sprinkler heads have been stolen, electrical wire cut, a sledge hammer taken to one of the bathtubs. And the vandals were brazen enough to yank hard enough on the furnace located in the bonus room. They pulled the copper wire right out of it. The wire was bent in several places, pipes were pulled down, and the furnace had to be repaired. And we haven't even used it yet!

It sickens me that we have people malicious enough in our area to do this. It is either the work of a mean-spirited person in the area, kids on the loose with nothing better to do, or a sub-contractor that didn't get the job he felt like he should have.

Our contractor said it may get worse before it gets better.... that's just the way it is!

Buy you a big mean dog. I can't believe people do things like that. Do you pay for the damage or does the contractor? Is there anyway to secure the area? Sad you have to think about those things.

We've thought of everything but the big mean dog. When we asked our contractor about locking and securing the place, he said it doesn't do any good. If someone wants something bad enough, they will break the doors and windows to get in. We are having a security system put in, but it won't be up and working until the house is pretty much complete.

We are having our 4-way inspection done on the house this week, after which, they will start sheet rocking and bricking the house. Windows will go in too. That should deter vandals quite a bit more. They can't see the inside stuff to know where to cut and grab.

Yes, this sure is the sign of the last days. You can't even put a plow share down without (a neighbor)someone stealing it! I thought we lived in a pretty safe area. That just goes to show that you can't trust too much!

Oh, and by the way, the contractor pays for all damages. He must have good insurance because he said he deals with this all the time. Sad! No wonder our insurance premiums are so high. We have to pay for all the thiefs! Someone has to pay!
