Labor Day is a day of celebration. But it is also a sad reminder of the day Steven passed away. We've decided as a family that it is better to get together, like we have always done, to eat and visit. it's fun to watch the kiddos play. Labor Day is not only thinking about times past and resting from the labors of work, but it is about capturing the wonderful moments of today.
I am thankful for the bounteous harvest from our orchard and garden. We have plenty to eat. We have safe shelter over our heads. We have clothing to wear. And family... near and far.. who love each other. That's a lot to be thankful for today.
A friend, Sarah from Farmington, makes her yearly trip to the farm to buy Elberta peaches for canning. She is so sweet and kind. She brought me a hosta plant for Shaniel's garden a couple of years ago. It is flourishing and will always remind me of her kindness during a hard time. She and her children are picking a few plums to eat on the way home. Sarah also makes plum ketchup. Sounds so yummy. Can't wait to try some!
September 6 - Smarty Pants Preschool
Today is Emilee's first day at Smarty Pant Preschool. I have a feeling she is going to love it!
September 7 - Raspberry Peach Jam
Today Audrey and I made some raspberry peach jam. The kiddos don't like the seeds so Audrey worked diligently at straining them out. I think it's going to be well worth it!
I told the kiddos I would take them to the Dollar Store if they helped their mother clean the house. They did and today they got their reward.
September 9 - Canning Peaches
September is for canning! Leslie came up for a day or two and got ropped into canning peaches with Audrey and I. Well... her and I did all the work. Audrey was too sick to help. We were suppose to go to a couple of Antique stores but ended up in the kitchen instead. I am grateful. It was fun to have a day of canning with my sister and I can't wait to have some peaches put away in my pantry. They are going to taste real good this winter. And I promise Leslie... I'll make it up to you. We'll get to those Antique shops next time you come!
September 12 - Emilee's Birthday
Emilee wanted to go to her favorite park for her birthday... The Fish Park. She wanted to fly her kite. The weather was perfect for flying kites. The breeze was perfect and it only took a time or two before each of the kids had their kites soaring high in the late summer sky. We ate cupcakes and watched the kids play on the play ground and run down the grassy hill. It was a fun birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY SWEET GIRL!
I am always so happy to be a part of the Mecham family activities. I love every minute I get to spend with them.
September 18 - Fall Leaves
What started out as a road trip to Heber, ended up being one of the best birthday's of my life. Really! I can't think of a better place I would rather be than in the beautiful mountains of Utah surrounded by spectacular scenery and colorful leaves. Oh... it was so delightful! This was our first drive over the mountain, from Midway to Park City, since the road was paved. Thanks for making my birthday extra, extra special this year Dave! (eventhough he didn't know it was for my birthday:))
September 20 - Loving...
My sweet Amie! Happy Birthday to a dear daughter who turned 38 years old yesterday, September 19th. I made a quick trip to Price to see her. Clint bought us Subway and we ate on their new deck and exchanged gifts. What a wonderful day it was!
We visited Shaniel and Steve's graves. Oh... my heart! How I miss these two kids of mine. How my heart aches to hear their voices and to feel their hugs. Heaven can't come soon enough somedays!
September 21 - Making cake
These munckins came up and made grandma a birthday cake. Thank you Mecham family for making my day special!
September 23 - USU
Overlooking the student center from the parking garage.
Dave surprised me by taking me to USU today to buy a new jacket. That made me so happy! I picked out a classy dark blue Aggie Alumni jacket. The zipper is not working... but I know someone(s) who can fix it for me!
I love to meander down the halls of the student center. It brings back fond memories of me doing that 25 years ago. Shopping in the book store brings back many, many wonderful and happy memories, too. I am so thankful for the experience I had of going back to school. You are never too old and it's never too late to receive an education and gain the experience college has to offer. I loved those days!
September 25 - FHE - Samuel the Laminite
The kiddos were being silly and we couldn't get them to get into the lesson. They were suppose to be Samuel the Lamanite upon the city wall. Ben disappeared all together. It really doesn't matter. What matter's is that we have lessons, even if it's only once in awhile. They will someday become treasured memories and traditions they will want to carry on in their own families.
September 28 - Watering plants
I love it when the flowers need watered. I take my camera with me and take pictures of the beautiful full blossoms of the Zinnias. They are my favorite summer flower.
An orchard in grass
Leslie and I were driving around Willard and saw this beautiful little orchard across from the church house set in grass. Beautiful! That gave her an idea for Jens and Patricia. And, it certainly added to my desire for the same thing. I know it is unrealistic in the large orchard, but we have a small section of peach trees just east of the barn that we could do this in. It's always been something I have wanted. Grass in my orchard! I love it! I think it reminds me of our little orchard in Spring Glen. Grass grew among the trees and I always loved being there. I think I may have finally convinced Dave that we could have a grassy orchard where the small section of peach trees are. He is so practical. I am so not! Crossing my fingers I get my wish!
Cooler full of peaches
This is a record year for peaches and profit! The cooler is evidence of that. It is "plum" full!
I love my yard! Pictures tell the story. No need to say more.
Apple season
I got on the 4 wheeler and took a spin through the orchard. I really enjoyed it. Usually Dave has the 4 wheeler tied up all day. Our Fugi apples are huge and very delicious. Can't wait to sink my teeth in one!
Cooler
We had a new cooler built this year on the property. It will save not only time... but money and work. Dave can haul the wagon full of peaches from the orchard to cooler within minutes. No more transferring baskets from the wagon to the van. From van to cooler. Not to mention the 10 mile round trip it takes to get to Eskelsen's cooler. We will miss Dick, but we can visit him. We'll just be thankful for our own cooler.... finally.
