August 2- Heber City Fairgrounds
Dave and I went on a ride to Heber today. We drove around and stopped by the new Fairgrounds. It is huge! It is so different from the old white wooden bleachers, stands, and buildings of days gone by. The scenery of the mountains surrounding the valley is beautiful!
Dave found a reward. As we were walking along the base of the bleachers, he looked down on the ground and found a $5 bill. Enough to buy us a treat for the way home!
August 3 - Rain
I love the rain! It makes everything look fresh and clean and new again.
August 4 - Shingles
I'm not talking about shingles on the roof! My lower abdomen started itching like crazy the other day. I looked to see what all the itch was about and found these chicken pox like blisters scattered across my abdomen. I went in the see the doctor. He took one look and said "you have shingles!" Lucky me. It was on the mild side. So yes, lucky me. It could have been worse. A dose of antibiotics and some cream got me over it in a few weeks time.
August 5 - Friends
Latessa, Makaela, Celia, and Bridgette enjoyed a day at the Newgate Mall. I'm often called upon to be the designated driver since Kelsey is in school and works. I'm always happy to do so.
August 7 - Celia
It was just Celia and grandma this morning. Dave and Makaela were out in the orchard picking berries and peaches. Celia and I enjoyed a quiet morning and a yummy breakfast of pancakes, bacon, eggs, and orange juice.
Celia leaves for Paris in a few days. It was nice to have some alone time with this amazing adopted granddaughter! She is so sweet.
Shaniel's Garden
I sat under the pergola, in Shaniel's garden, watching Dave and Makaela, and a couple of neighbor boys work in the orchard. All my senses became engaged as I heard the engine of the 4-wheeler, smelled the fragrance of the flowers, looked at the beauty surrounding me, felt the sun on my face, and touched the delicate petals of a flower. Nothing was more beautiful than that this morning.
August 8 - Books
Since I couldn't come down for Alia's birthday on the 4th, I came today, delivering a present that she would surely love. A set of June B. books! Now she has her reading cut out for her. I think that's a good end of summer project.
Ben
Ben had something very exciting to show me today. He learned how to ride his bike without training wheels. Way to go Ben! And, he modeled his new soccer shirt, too. I love the bright neon green of his uniform.
August 14- Soccer game
Makaela is on the Junior Varsity soccer team for Bear River High. Lady Bears! She is number 33. I enjoy watching her in action, especially being part of a team. It's fun to sit by Kelsey, too. It brings me a lot of joy being with family.
August 18 - Canning Peaches
I helped Kelsey bottle peaches today. I did the peeling, since I am quick at it. She does the rest. We make a good team!
Goats
One of my favorite things about going to Kelsey's house is watching the animals. For some reason, it is peaceful, relaxing, and therapeutic. Matilda and Buckwheat are enjoying some escape time from their pen.
Smoky Sunset
Fires from neighboring states have made an impact on our air and the atmosphere. I took this picture of a smoky sunset on Willard Bay.
August 20 - Smoky Sunrise
I was up early enough to see the sun rise over the Wasatch Mountains, so I took a picture. It's still smoky!
Delivery
I made a mad dash to Amie's in Huntington to deliver a bunch of boxes of peaches to customers she has gathered over the years.
Sisters
Kelley recently got home from the hospital after suffering a serious illness. We are thankful to have her back! Leslie and I met at Kelley's, did some visiting, ate lunch, and took pictures. It was a good day to be with two of my sisters. I love them!
August 22 - More Soccer games
It was Alia's and Ben's day for soccer games. The Mecham family and myself enjoyed an extra warm morning watching the kids use a new skill. The sun was a little bright on James, but Emilee finds relief with a bottle of water underneath an umbrella. Smart!
August 25 - Old Reliable
The new lids and cartons Dave bought for the blackberries were miserable to put together, to say the least. The lids did not fit. Today, I got to use the "old reliables". Why does everything lose it's quality with each passing year? The good old days really are leaving us!
August 26 - County Fair Awards
I'm so proud of Brayden and Makaela. They both won better than blue ribbon awards for their entries in the Box Elder County Fair. Brayden received Special Merit for his oil painting. His buffalo is awesome! He's a natural artist. I think he might have in herited some of Great Grandma Ida Bates' talent!
Makaela's rabbits won a blue ribbon and Best Opposite Sex Award. Good job kids!
August 27 - Fresh peaches
Month In Review
Anniversary
Dave and I made it another year! We celebrated 21 years of marriage on August 13th with a dinner and a movie. I'm looking forward to more years of celebrations.
Birthdays
Alia Mecham - August 4
Alia turned 7 years old this year. She likes to try new things. After she takes a series of lessons (whether it be ice skating, piano, etc.), she says she doesn't need to anymore because she knows how to do it now! Alia loves the outdoors and exploring nature. And, she is very independent.
Carson Donaldson - August 23
Carson turned 14 years old this year. This picture was taken in May, at an end of school year band concert. It was a rare occasion to have three of his cousins perform in the same concert. Carson plays the trumpet. This year he was recognized for excellence. I am proud of him!

I'm doing a little skimming through posts I've missed. Looked like this was a fun and busy month for you. Thanks for hauling that cabinet down for me, and collecting it, and storing it during my illness. I've sure enjoyed it. Thanks for coming and spending the day with me.
I'm just now going back through my pictures. The closer I get to September, the harder it is for me. I can hardly get through Steven's death. The pictures make me panic and then I cry and cry and cry. It's hard. But I am going to get through it. I was overjoyed to spend the day with you. It was a miracle you were here!
