Social Networking is POWER!

I couldn't help but feel part of Cairo's day of liberation. It was quite remarkable seeing it unfold right before my eyes. After 30 years under the rule of Dictator Hosni Mubarak, the young Egyptians finally overthrew his regime. They were passionate about starting a new government, a democratic society. I heard one young man say "we want to be like America!" The revolutionaries used the tools of the 21st century... the Internet, Facebook and Twitter to organize the protests. After Mubarak resigned Friday, Egyptians partied in the streets, waved huge flags, set off fireworks and sang patriotic songs until dawn. It was exhilarating to watch!

Even with all the excitment.... much is to be determind in the future. Who is really behind the revolutionary? Will the new government be a friend to the free world? Will the voice of freedom prevail?

And, is there something to be learned here? The revolutionaries overthrew a dictatorship in just 18 short days. There was no bloodshed, no war, no billions of dollars spent to force a change in government. They accomplished their goal in a relatively peaceful manner. Social networking, is indeed, POWER!

Day 49 - Dirty Politics... an unsightly site

Rocky Mountain Power thinks they own our mountain. The huge monopoly came in, without any regard to our small Wasatch Range community, and set a line of massive power poles above our property, interfering with our view of the beautiful rugged mountain east of our farm. Other folks have been displaced by Rocky Mountain Power, too. And that's not all..... the radiation coming off of those 4 inch round power lines poses a health risk to all in its path. Our town tried to stop the process, with no avail. We now have three sets of power poles and lines lining the mountains east of us, and we can't do a thing about it. One line runs through our property, another one is 100 feet from our property, and the newest one is about 300 feet from our property. The Mr. was talking to one of the men installing the new line (who was from Denver) who apologized for the whole project. He was embarrased, as he said all the line was installed for is to provide a back-up for power just in case they need it for any reason. It sounds like dirty politics.... another one of Obama's lame and outrageously expensive projects to put people to work.... I'm so disgusted with him!
