Steve brought his family up for a visit. We went to the Corinne Rodeo devoted to kids, had a bbq, and celebrated Jarrett's 8th birthday. Haile entertained us with the ALS ice bucket challenge.
Chad was the announcer at the rodeo, and Makaela helped out where needed. Jarrett went to the store with grandma and picked out his cupcakes. I enjoyed my one-on-one time with him.
September 3 - Feeding the ducks
Audrey and I took the kiddos to the duck pond by Lee's Market. Ben and Alia fed the ducks bread crumbs. Alia stood her distance! As the three-somes headed to the pond, they stopped and looked down the hill before proceeding. Love this picture!
September 5 - Hosea learns how to drive the tractor!
September 6 - Rain clouds
I woke to a pleasant sight this morning. Storm clouds on the horizon! Then came the rain. So nice and refreshing!
September 7 - Carving Angels
I enjoyed an afternoon in the library today. Reading Carving Angels and eating strawberry wafers.... yummmm! I'm thinking about Christmas. This is the book I have picked out to give the kids this year. I loved the story, and it was a fast and easy read. I think the kids are going to like it.
September 8 - Harvest Moon
This is one of my favorite pictures to take in the Fall. The harvest moon is so big and bright this time of year. According to the Farmer's Almanac, it is referred to the harvest moon because the farmers would harvest the last of their crops by the light of the moon.
September 11 - Appledays Preschool
First day of teaching Ben and Emilee was so much fun. I introduced the letter "A". A is for apples was the theme. We read Johnny Appleseed, sorted and counted apples, made Pot Hats, and ate apple things for lunch. Fun day! Can't wait for more preschool days with the kiddos!
September 12 - Two
Emilee's birthday was special, and she knew it! Balloons have become a tradition in Audrey's family. They also get to choose their birthday dinner. Emilee likes to eat big, traditional meals so Audrey fixed chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes. It was delicious!
She was thrilled with her gifts. A new bed! And a baby doll from her family. I gave her a traditional German doll and the pink crocheted blanket that my mother (Ellen Bates) made. Oh... did she love her gifts. She picked her doll up, put the pacifier in her mouth, wrapped her in the blanket and got on her new bed... snuggling up with her new baby. She had a smile on her face that just wouldn't quit!
We went to the park after dinner. The kids went down the slides, swung on the swings, and climbed the rocks and ropes on the playground. Emilee loved her cupcakes! I just love the kids birthday parties. Makes me so happy to watch their smiles!
September 13 - Fall picnic
The original plan was to take a drive to see the Autumn leaves before my surgery. Audrey and I made our way up through the north Ogden pass to Eden Valley. The leaves were just barely showing signs of turning. We came back down Ogden Canyon and stopped at a trail head just before coming out of the canyon. The kids were thrilled to get out, walk the trail for a ways, play in the weeds, and eat their lunches. Emilee had a melt down because we took her jacket off. It was getting too warm. Thank goodness it didn't take too long for her to get over it!
September 15 - Surgery
I had gallbladder surgery today. My appointment was at 9:00 a.m., but Dr. Moesenger ended up having a couple of emergency surgeries in the morning which set my surgery back to 1:00 in the afternoon. The surgery went well and I was home by 7:00 p.m. Audrey stayed the night with me. Ben was such a cutie! He brought the ice pack and other things upstairs to me when I needed them. I was able to get up in the night to take care of myself. I felt remarkably well and told Audrey she could go home. I was good!
September 19 - Sugar Cookies
I felt well enough to go to Audrey's today and help the kids make sugar cookies. They took turns putting the ingredients into the bowl.
While the dough was sitting in the fridge, the kids took advantage of some play time.
After the dough was cooled and easier to handle, we rolled the dough and cut pumpkin and leaf shapes out (very little help from grandma). The kids are getting really good at making cookies!
September 21 - Chocolate Cake for me!
It's my birthday today and I choose chocolate! Thanks Kelsey for dinner and cake.
Dave called me this morning and told me I could pick out a jacket from Utah State for my birthday. I've been telling him how much I have been wanting a USU jacket. My first ever jacket I got when I was Extension Agent... Amie talked me out of. It wasn't long before Brian adopted it as his own. I would never see it again! I was so bummed. It's been a long time and I am so excited to get one again!
Not only was it my birthday, but it was also the re-dedication of the Ogden LDS temple. Here's my ticket and Shaniel's white handkerchief. The 1:00 p.m. session I attended was so uplifting and inspiring. Especially Pres. Henry B. Eyering's talk. It was the best birthday ever!
September 23 - Biscuit Pot Pie
Today I made a dish I found off Pinterest. Biscuit Pot Pie. Very good!
September 25 - Appledays
We made Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies
And went outside!
Went for a walk looking for caterpillars, but instead found a pumpkin, dried up sunflowers, and dandelions. Ben and Emilee pick dandelions for mommy. Some of the flowers are still blooming. Very pretty!
September 26 - Emergency Preparedness Kit
September is National Emergency Preparedness Month. I bought the kids and I a roll-away emergency backpack for Christmas in 2012. I decided to open it up and take a look to see if there was anything else I should add. And, boy did I ever! I made a commitment this month to be completely prepared. First thing I did was make a list of what I had and what I still needed to purchase. I went shopping at Smiths and Edwards, Cal Ranch, Walmart, and Sportsman's Warehouse and finished getting everything needed to complete my emergency kit.
I may never need my kit, but I am prepared! I did it mainly because I wanted to be obedient. 100% obedient!
September 29 - F.H.E.
Audrey's and Kelsey's families came up for dinner and F.H.E. The kids shucked corn. Ben was so proud of himself. He was able to get one corn completely shucked! Of course our lesson was on emergency preparedness.
