June

Then followed that beautiful season... Summer... Filled was the air with a creamy and magical light; and the landscape lay as if new created in all the freshness of childhood. --Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

June 1 - Daisies

When designing our landscaping, daisies were at the top of my list.  I have always loved daisies.  The delicate white petals envelope the perfectly round, yellow, seedy center.  When I look closely and think about it, I like to imagine it's the sun centered in purity.  Just like my thoughts and actions should be. Daisies were my wedding flower in 1975.  They will always be a favorite.  I can't wait for the landscaping to mature so I can enjoy many clusters of daisies all over the yard.

June 3 - Pretty Blue Bird Eggs

I've been watching a pair of starlings build an elaborate bird nest in the grill on the back deck.  Over the last five days, one pretty blue egg has been added to the nest each day.  Now... we'll just have to wait to see if they hatch in such an unusual choice of home.

June 4 -  Boat Race

Makalea and Brayden spent the day with me.  They are always creative in their play. Today I gave them some plastic tub boats.  It didn't take them long to challenge each other to a boat race that started at the top of the waterfall and ended at the bottom.

June 5 - Sheep

Kelsey bought a couple of young sheep for Brayden and Makaela to participate in a 4-H project.  They are housed in the garden for now, awaiting their new home in West Corrine.  They are funny animals to watch.  They have eaten all the grass in the garden and have now gone to extreme measures to reach the grass on the other side of the fence posts.

June 6 - Sold

Kelsey and Chad sold their house in Bear River.  They will be moving to their new house in West Corrine in a couple of days.  It will be better for them.  The house is a little bigger and they have more property for the animals. I am happy for them, but I admit, I am going to miss their yard in Bear River.  It is so peaceful and beautiful.  It's like a huge park.  The backyard faces east and has given us many opportunities to get together, shaded by the huge cotton wood trees.  We relax and visit, watch the animals run and play, the kids play, the garden grow, we have bbq and tea parties, and enjoy the cool summer evenings around the fireplace.  Oh... how I am going to miss it!

June 9 - Fresh Raspberry Milk Shakes

It's raspberry season!  Today I took advantage of it and made Dave and I a fresh raspberry milkshake.  Yummmmm!

June 13 - Young Women

What happens when 12 and 13 year old girls, fresh cherries, and croquet get together?  PARTY!!  We had Young Womens at my house today for a day of play.  We played crochet, ate cherries and had rootbeer floats.  Three of my girls are leaving Beehives this month. I am sad.  I have enjoyed them in my class and will miss them.  They were so sweet.  They secretly stashed thank-you cards in my kitchen among counter things and I didn't find them until after they left.  Love those girls.

June 15 - Ben Cares

I had surgery yesterday, June 14.  Bladder repair, rectocele, cystocele.  Surgery lasted about three hours. I was quite sleepy the first day.  Today, Audrey and the kiddos came for a visit.  They brought me balloons.  It was so nice.  When they were leaving, the aid came in and got me up to walk.  We got to the end of the hallway and were about to part ways.  But Ben had other plans.  He grabbed grandma's hand and proceeded to lead and walk me around the halls of the hospital.  He wasn't about to leave grandma.  It brought a smile to everyone's faces.  I love that little guy!  He will always be my special baby.

Recovery has been slow and challenging.  Several infections, lack of body functions, medication allergies, and set back in healing left me in bed for several weeks.  It will be nice to get back to normal, and sometimes I wonder if it will ever come.
