80 miles of Fireworks

Monday, July 4, 2011

Dave and I spent the day together.  We shopped for a new couch, went to the movies, and watched fireworks from the balcony.  When it turned 10:00 p.m. we started to see the first of the fireworks go off.  From our front balcony, Willard's were shooting up about a half mile away on the far side of the cemetery.  We decided to jump in the car and go up the road to the gravel pit entrance.

We were the only ones there.  It was pitch black in between the bursts of colorful fireworks lighting the sky.  A faint, clouded over, outline of the crescent moon was visible.  As the  fireworks burst into the air, we could hear booms echo thunderously off the huge Wasatch Mountain canyon walls.  It was awesome!  We looked in every direction.... north, west, south.  Firework displays were lighting the sky all over the valley.  We counted twelve fireworks celebrations spanning from Tremonton in the north to Bountiful in the south.  That's an 80 mile spread!

Our friend, Austin Lund, when he came to our house for a visit, said he wasn't jealous about the house, but the view we would get of the fireworks on the 4th of July.  I thought that was a little strange, but now I understand!  Next year's 4th of July will have to include food, friends, and family and a trip to the top of the hill!
